<< Teenaged readers deserve to be able to choose to read novels reflecting their own and other families as well. They deserve to be able to read novels showing kids their age in other nations or other circumstances coping and even surviving. >>
<<Perhaps others from the U.S. or other nations will name books about which many of us would like to know.>>
I remember two "old" books that inspired me as a child -- before my teens -- and let me know that kids could make a real difference in the world, ione was BRAVE GIRLS, published by I think the GirlScouts, a collection of accounts of girls who worked for the underground during WW2. The other was SNOW TREASURE, a novel about Norweigian kids who helped smuggle gold out of their country
during the Nazi occupation during WW2. I'm sure some of the similar, more contemporary books being published today are having a simliar impact on today's kids. Long may they wave! And thanks to Mike for raising this point.
