Arnold -- thank you for posting this message about the Dillons. Such wonderful illustrators. I often thought they should have earned a third Caldecott for Who's in Rabbit's House, illustrated the year after their back to back Caldecotts in 76 and 77. But that would have made it three in a row. But their innovation on the "play" of the book's text was masterful. And so was their illustrative work for Virginia's wonderful tales told in The People Could Fly. I loved the collection and love even more the illustrated title story published this year. And if you are telling us that Janet Schulman thought the project up -- I join you in sending out kudos to her. Masterful idea.
All my best,
Sharron McElmeel
I was lucky enough to see their presentation here at my library - they did a slide presentation of their illustrations from way back. Did you know that they did the poster and the paperback cover for The Fox by D.H. Lawrence?
(the one with the woman's profile facing up). One of the things that amazed me the most was how many different styles they used.
