I also found The Life of Pi to be a wonderful read -- and definitely one that is ripe for discussion! Although (for me) the beginning of the book was a bit slow, once I got into it I could not put it down, and the ending was absolutely amazing! I love the way in which it is left open for interpretation, and the reader must decide what really happened. Everytime I speak to someone else who has also read the book, we each seem to have a different idea of what actually happened! As soon as I finished reading it, I too wanted to begin all over again! Although I haven't yet gotten around to a second read, I would love to go back over it more intricately and examine the details that determine the ending!

My book discussion group met last night, and one of the members brought her daughter with her. The daughter is in 11th grade in high school. She is reading The Life of Pi by Yann Martel. She said the book was so good that she is reading it for the second time. I asked her if she reads books written especially for young adults. She looked at me rather funny, and so I explained what kind of books these were and that they were found in the Young Adult section of Barnes & Noble. She said,
"oh those books. Those are for junior high." She said that she and her friends read adult books.
