Fellow Fans of The Race to Save the Lord God Bird,
Did you hear? Did you hear?? The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is living in Arkansas!! Researchers have been sitting on the information for more than a year, wanting to make no mistake and raise hopes of birders everywhere, but this morning they made the announcement... THE BIRD (which was long thought to be extinct in the U.S.) IS STILL HERE!!!!!
Here's a link to NPR's feature on the story, which aired this morning: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyIdF22633
Let me explain, for those of you who aren't already aware, that I had NO knowledge of or interest in the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker before reading Philip Hoose's marvelous book, and now? Now today's piece of news thrills me on a level I could never have anticipated a year ago!!
If you have NOT yet read The Race to Save the Lord God Bird, pick it up and start reading it RIGHT NOW so that you can share in this excitement!
Your friend of a feather, alison
