Other sites poetry lovers who agree and/or disagree on what poetry IS include:
knopfpoetry at info.randomhouse.com
which posts a poem a day with an array of references that might be used with young adult/adult readers
and
www.eileenspinelli.com
a poet for younger children who posts a delightful Poem of the Month each month.
I come back to lines from an Eleanor Farjeon poem, "What is Poetry?"
"and what is Poetry? Who knows?"
Actually, who cares? If words hit YOU like a blast of winter air, feel them, let them slap your face, take them as they come.

PS: To Emma: (Whom I adore for starting this discussion): The title you refer to by X.J. Kennedy is his anthology, TALKING LIKE THE RAIN (Little, Brown).
Some people get this title confused. One person referred to it as SINGING DOWN THE DRAIN!
