poetry?

As per Lee's request....
A couple of years ago, 'A Poke in the I' was on the Maine Student Book Award nominee list. My afterschool reading group for grades 4-8 spent HOURS on this one book, arguing that they didn't feel it really was poetry since it didn't take a more traditional form.
Being the moderator/adult/librarian, I had to take the side that said that the beauty of poetry was that it could include many different forms. Guess who was shot down repeatedly? :)
As I said to LHB...there are definitely some traditionalists in the upcoming generation!
