Recently I did a study (for myself) of American Poets for Children from l920 00. An interesting fact is that more poets were published during the decade of the l990's than any other decade in the 20th century.
A curious note is in the l940's only two voices emerged: Elizabeth Coatsworth
(l948) and Harry Behn (l949).
Other than the '90's another glorious decade was the l970's.
With over l0,000 books for children being published annually, there are under l00 titles of poetry that appear. (This figure doesn't include picture books in rhyme.) The figure reflects books by individual poets and anthologies published in the US.
