I may be p.n.g. on this list because the message I sent the other day responding to K.T.'s question about comm. consideration of illustration did not carry over the ether. What I wrote was that, having served on a Sibert--a marvelous experience, one of the best, was that we considered the total book. If illustrations are mal?ptioned or incorrect, we must take notice since we judge everything--or should
(and not only for awardees). The book is a totality and I still cannot understand why an incorrect illustration appeared in an awardee this year.
I quite agree with the E-mailer who wrote of text in Caldecotts. Surely the unity of the book includes text, and v.v., texts, illustrations, design, etc., etc., should work as the very best example of genre.
I, too, as I have indicated previously, do not understand why the Hoose
"Great God Bird..." was not among the medalists.
