Really liked the Valerie Strauss article on boys and reading. It certainly mirrors my experience as a k-8 school librarian for the last 28 years. I have made a point over the years of purchasing lots of boy friendly non-fiction into the collection. Once they are enjoying reading then you can get them interested in trying other types of literature. I still beleive that as long as they are reading at all no matter if it's non-fiction, magazines etc it's a great thing. I try to get that across to our parent population as well who sometimes feel that non-fiction is not really reading.
