I am only about half-way through HOW I LIVE NOW, but I do like it very much.
Yesterday a colleague told me that a teen had come in who had been told she needed to read books at a certain lexile level. Her level was off-the-charts high.
The YA staff member on desk looked on either www.lexiles.com or www.lexile.com (I forget which) to get ideas for what to suggest. Most of the suggested titles for her lexile level seemed guaranteed to kill any love of reading this girl might have had, b ut (drumroll, please!) HOW I LIVE NOW was on the list.
It is interesting to be reading a book that feels very comfortable and interesting to read, and to also be thinking, "Hey! Look at me! I'm reading at a high lexile level!"
Best wishes,
Hope
