When talking recently with some teacher friends, the book Knuffle Bunny came up. We didn't really discuss its Caldecott worthiness because we couldn't get past the fact that it is flat-out hilarious. Right away on the copyright and title page we were giggling at the father's glasses and beard changes and the length of Mom's hair in the family photos. We also loved the expressions on Trixie's face.
However, here's the clincher. One of the mom teachers was reading it to her young daughter, and when they got to the page where "Trixie helped her daddy put the laundry into the machine," her daughter asked, quite innocently, "Why are they washing goggles?"
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, Trixie has a pair of pants on her head, a sock on one hand, and the other hand is waving a particular female undergarment.
