I was delighted to learn that Francesca Lia Block has been given the Margaret A Edwards Award for lifetime contribution to YA literature. She is surely one of the most creative and innovative YA authors, whose books are both important thematically and charming, and many of which send the hopeful message that
love and understanding can exist among all kinds of people.
And I think it's it's wonderful, too, that the Wilder Medal went to Lawrence Yep, who has been writing marvelous books about the Chinese community for lo, these many, many years.
