It's funny that the Newbery winner, KIRA KIRA, is book that the flagship B&N store in NYC didn't have (I work there). We've never carried it. I guess we will now!
That scenario seems to happen a lot. Award winners are often the ones not originally chosen by the buyers to be carried at most of the stores. I wonder why Kira-Kira wasn't. Not flashy enough? Something that kids won't pick up? Something that parents won't pick up? Too boring? A book that the publisher didn't sell hard enough? Perhaps I'll be able to figure out why the B&N store didn't carry it once I see it....
