Just to give you a bit more background about one of the authors. Sandra Stotsky was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Board of Education and an outspoken conservative, not only about reading but about all aspects of the educational curriculum. She was on the Board when many of the current
curriculum frameworks in Massachusetts were adopted and when the MCAS tests were instituted. She is a very powerful woman in education circles in Massachusetts. She is also the author of Losing Our Language: How Multiculturalism Is Underwriting Our Children's Ability to Read, Write and Reason. For those of us familiar with her work in Massachusetts, this new article is quite in keeping with her previous concerns.
