I too was very favorably impressed by GODLESS. Jason and Shin are well portrayed as opposites; one is an example of excessive apathy, and the other, fanatic zeal. Since these are both common states of being for the average teen, the story is all too believable and for that very reason, chilling. The novel showed the dangers of both extremes, the inability to connect or take pleasure in anything vs. the risk of being manipulated through one's faith by unscrupulous religious leaders (or friends or lovers) to dangerous/criminal actions.
