Our 1st and 3rd graders each held a Mock Caldecott this year and I thought some might be interested in the results: 1st grade: The Umbrella (Brett); Wynken Blynken and Nod (Field); Knuffle Bunny (Willems); Arrowhawk (Schaefer); Detective LaRue: Notes from the Investigation (Teague)
3rd grade: Wild About Books (Sierra); Knuffle Bunny; The Umbrella; Sidewalk Circus (Fleischman); Arrowhawk; The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog
(Willems)
However, this week we had a member of the actual Caldecott committee visit and lead a discussion about the top choices. The re-vote had a slightly different outcome: Knuffle Bunny, Arrowhawk and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog were the top choices by the end of the day.
I should mention that our choices may be somewhat biased by the fact that Knuffle Bunny takes place here in out neighborhood - Park Slope, Brooklyn
- and the children were thrilled to see places they recognized from their daily lives!
