I loved Meg Rosoff's YA novel How I Live Now. I found it thematically rich, the plot heartbreaking and Daisy's voice real and compelling. Other YA books worthy of mention:
Double Helix by Nancy Werlin. I'm a sucker for a fast-moving plot, and
I simply couldn't put this book down. Godless, by Peter Hautman, also deserves a vigorous nod. Great story.
Great book to discuss with young people. Jaclyn Morarity's The Year of Secret Assignments. I found it so entertaining,
laugh-out-loud funny, light-hearted but not light.
For middle schoolers: Indigo's Star by Hilary McKay. Companion book to Saffy's Angel. I just can't
get enough of the Casson family. Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer. It's smart, witty, fast-moving, rich in
detail and theme. A great book.
Favorite 2004 picture books: Acutal Size by Steve Jenkins. Science Verse by Jon Sciezka The Best Pet of All by David la Rochelle, illustrated by Hanako Wakiyama and of course, Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems
