Christopher Mouse: The Tale of a Small Traveler, by William Wise, with pictures by Patrick Benson, is a little gem. It's a short novel, narrated in the first person, with lots of suspense and adventure for the kids and some great parodies of well-known poems for the adults (There's one that starts, "Let us go then, thee and me, when the menu is spread out upon the knee...") Benson's drawings are beautifully done, very expressive in their quiet way. My favorite book this year!
And I'd love to mention one that was published last year, but that I read for the first time a couple of months ago: James Kochalka's graphic novel Peanutbutter and Jeremy's Best Book Ever.
Happy holidays to all - Lyn
