In the past, we've hosted live face-to?ce discussions of books eligible for the Coretta Scott King Award here at the CCBC. This year we've decided to try something new -- our very first online award discussion. This discussion will not be a regular part of CCBC-Net. Instead, we're using a message board format from WebBoard, made available through the Center for Instructional Materials and Computing at the UW-Madison School of Education.

Anyone with access to the World Wide Web will be able to participate in the discussion by going to http://conference.education.wisc.edu/~award/ and logging in as a new user. Once you've logged in, you can proceed to the message board and add your own comments or read what others have posted.

Because this is a pilot project, we're going to limit the number of books we'll be discussing to eight books for older children and teens that are eligible for the CSK Author Award. They are:

Behind You by Jacqueline Woodson. (Putnam)

Bird by Angela Johnson. (Dial)

Bucking the Sarge by Christopher Paul Curtis. (Wendy Lamb Books / Random House)

Fortune's Bones: The Manumission Requiem by Marilyn Nelson. (Front Street)

Here in Harlem: Poems in Many Voices by Walter Dean Myers. (Holiday House)

No Laughter Here by Rita Williams-Garcia. (Amistad / HarperCollins)

Orphea Proud by Sharon Dennis Wyeth. (Delacorte)

Who Am I Without Him? Short Stories about Girls and the Boys in Their Lives by Sharon G. Flake.
(Jump at the Sun / Hyperion)

Whether you've read all of these titles or only one or two of them, we hope you'll join us for what we trust will be a lively discussion!
