The committees meeting for the various awards at midwinter in Boston will discuss and vote on the books published in 2004. At the summer conference, the committees ( different members) will discuss those books published in 2005 with continuing/ final discussions/voting at midwinter 2006 for books published in 2005. Forgot when the rules changed but books on the Newbery
/Caldecott lists must be included on the children's notable list. This is done when the judging ends, and prior to the release of the lists. In bygone years it was awkward; some books on the Newbery/ Caldecott lists were not selected for the notable list and ALA changed the rules. The make up of the committees is such that each committee has members from the previous year as well as new members. Norma Jean
