Twelve high school students at a small private school in Bluffton, Indiana examined and defended--quite well, I might add--several picture books. Their choice for the Caldecott was:

They awarded two honor books:
"Wow! City!" illustrated and written by Robert Neubecker
"Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog" also illustrated and written by Mo Willems
The other books that they voted to defend were:
"Actual Size" illustrated and written by Steve Jenkins
"Camel's Lament" illustrated by Charles Santore, written by Charles Edward Carryl
"Mr. Maxwell's Mouse" illustrated by Devin Asch, written by Frank Asch
