This announcement fits loosely within the monthly theme, so I am taking the liberty of making it mid-month. It concerns favorites, but forthcoming ones!

The Children's Book Council and USBBY (United States Board on Books for Young People) are launching an annual co-sponsored best international books list to begin with the 2005 publication year. A call for the selection committee is posted at the USBBY website, http://www.usbby.org/biblioctte.html. All committee members must be USBBY members and make certain commitments as described in the call. The appointments will be made after January 15, 2005, which gives you plenty of time to join or renew your membership if you want to be considered.

This new best books list represents another way, in addition to the Batchelder, for us to give international books more visibility.
