Announcement of A NEW DAY to the ccbc network
? I would like to announce the publication of a special bilingual edition of a favorite 1970?s Christmas picture book.
? Rarely does an artist have the privilege to witness the rebirth of one of his works. But that is exactly what is happening with the November 2004 reissue of A NEW DAY. Some of you may remember A NEW DAY. First published in 1970 by Delacorte Press, it tells the story of two migrant workers, Jose and Maria, as they travel South following the harvest. Maria is about to give birth, but no one will give them a room. So begins a modern retelling of the nativity story?.

Widely acclaimed when it was first published, many of its fans had but one wish: that it be made available in Spanish. A NEW DAY has been out of print for three decades, alive only in the memory of its admirers. For a multicultural theater and dance group in Des Moines, Iowa, that memory was powerful enough to inspire them to adapt the story for their Christmas 2004 production. When I received their request for permission, I decided that it was finally time to reissue A NEW DAY/UN NUEVO DIA in a newly redesigned bilingual edition.

Please go to: www.horsedrawnbooks.com for a preview. Timely as A NEW DAY was when it first appeared, it is even more so now.
