Someone mentioned C.S. Lewis which made me think of Philip Pullman whose His Dark Materials is such a fierce response to organized Christian religion via Milton's Paradise Lost. Last year I was privileged to see the National Theater's production of this work and to hear Pullman and Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in one of the National's Platforms (occasional conversations before the evening's performance). And speaking of Milton, a very lovely adaptation of Paradise Lost by Nancy Willard has just come out. Two other new religion-related books that I really like are Marcia William's God and his Creations: Tales from the Old Testement and Eric Kimmel's Wonders and Miracles: A Passover Companion.
