Hi all,
I really, truly meant to, but I never did get around to the _Narnia_ series as a child. Philip Pullman, however, *totally* entranced me as an adult-- so it was with much interest that I read Pullman's views of Lewis and his books, reframed in an article in the _Atlantic_ a couple of years ago. The article, by Gregg Easterbrook, is actually a defense of Lewis: a rebuttal of Pullman's and other's views that the _Chronicles_of_Narnia_ were racist and misogynist, both.
That said, Easterbrook does allow, in fact, that there were "passages that made me wince", and turns his eye toward issues of intellectual freedom. I, of course, meant to read the _Narnia_ books (again) after reading the _Atlantic_ article, but (again) never did do so. Thank you for reminding me to spend some time with these books.
