I received this note from Donna Hughes who is the head of Children's Services at the Handley Library in Winchester Virginia. I thought the ccbc list would want to know. Kay Winters

Dear Friends: As a friend of Nancy Larrick Crosby, I wanted you to know that Nancy died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, November 14th at age 93 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Please help me spread the word. Nancy, a former editor of children's books, was a national authority on children's literature. Among her many accomplishments as an author, poet, educator, children's literature specialist, and the second president of the International Reading Association, Nancy Larrick is remembered for her article "The All-White World of Children's Books," which appeared in the September 1965 issue of the Saturday Review. This article continues to influence the multicultural movement in children's literature. A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. on Friday at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, Virginia. It will be followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the nonprofit organizations Nancy Larrick Crosby supported in Winchester, or to a favorite charity.

Please spread the news to those who will want to know. She influenced so many, I'm not sure who knows. Isn't it interesting that she died the weekend of the Washington Children's Book Guild event and the beginning of Children's Book Week? Our city and our library are mourning. Spend time reading some poetry aloud. She would like that. Donna Hughes
