As a bicyclist and a resident of Evanston, Illinois, I enjoyed Jane Kurtz's recent book about Frances Willard, "Bicycle Madness." (Actually, I would have liked it no matter where I lived.) Willard was active in the women's temperance movement and was the first American woman to head a college (the "Evanston College for Ladies," associated with Northwestern University). This short novel is about her relationship with a young neighbor, and about developing the courage to be yourself.

Good discussion topic! I may think of more later. (Also a good distraction on a suspenseful afternoon...) Lyn
