Having gotten so much out of Scouting as a child/teen--particularly leadership skills and environmental consciousness--it continues to be a deep source of sadness to me that the organization's ignorance and intolerance has precluded my involvement as an adult. But then again, when I began questioning the Vietnam War the local adult Scout leaders made it clear that I was no longer a welcome presence in "their" organization.
