A book I have not seen mentioned on our quickly fading topic is LET IT SHINE by Andrea Davis Pinkney. The compelling stories of ten African-American freedom fighters are shared, some well-known and some less so. As Pinkney points out, all of these sheroes "spoke out fearlessly". Her writing style is so alive and invites children of today to see these women as role models for us all. We need the courage to speak out for "what we believe is right" in these very troubling times.
