First of all, my apologies to those of you who are on all three of these list serves that I'm writing to (know that I'll be receiving this message three times myself as well as the confirmations that I've sent this message in the first place). :-)

READING THE WORLD is one of my all time favorite conferences. An intimate group, it nevertheless boasts many AMAZING names in the world of children's literature.

The very first conference was inaugurated by Virginia Hamilton and Arnold Adoff (among others). This year we (I say we, only because I ALWAYS go, I do not organize this conference) will be honored to welcome Arnold again as well as his and Virginia's son, Jaime.

Keynoters will also include: Isabel Campoy, Alma Flor Ada, Nikki Grimes (always a hoot), Pat and Fred McKissack, Suzanne Fisher Staples and Junko Yokota (one of my favorite people).

Many of the keynoters also host breakout sessions and I warmly remember the chance to hear more from Suzanne Fisher Staples about her life and her work in a smaller setting.

The conference is held in San Francisco on March 12 and 13th. On March 12th the Northern California Children's Booksellers Association will be hosting their annual Otter Dinner (as in, you 'otter' be reading, groan) in conjunction with Reading the World. Their speakers will be Cornelia Funke and Joe Cepeda. (Also, the goody bags at this are FANTASTIC!)

Hope to see you there (we can have a Child Lit gathering)!!
