Godless and other novels about religion

I've been following the discussion about Godless and novels about religion. A new middle grade novel just came out. Called WHILE YOU WERE OUT, by Judith Kuns, this funny and sad novel is about a girl who's best friend has died of lukemia. She writes him notes on a while you were out pad and slips them into his empty desk. The novel, while not directly talking about prayer, is about the power of spirit, and demonstrates the power of prayer to heal. I think this is a book that will be Newbery material.
