The popularity of the school book

Greetings all,

Also, as a last minute posting (though technically in October), I agree with Judith. Last night I read Walt Dean Myers' The Story of the Three Kingdoms, to my credential students. It is a powerful tale of
"teaching" through storytelling. It reminds us of the power of stories, told around the fire, to provide the "village" (our communities!) with wisdom, the real strength that we need to raise our children well. It also reminds us of the power of the oral stories that families of rich cultural diversity have, stories that too often are not brought into the curriculum, but should be. There are a wealth of stories that challenge our traditional conceptions of "teaching" that would go a long way to expanding readers/listeners' sense of the art of "teaching" and "learning."

Blessings, Miguel
