Dear all, I love hearing what you have to say about E.L. Konigsburg and her many, many books. Like many, I started with Mixed-Up Files and went from there. A number of years ago, I heard her talk at a conference. She was eloquent on the topic of children, especially children who felt different because of their intelligence or curiosity. I then discovered Samuel Todd's Book of Great Inventions which is a picture book written and illustrated by her. I love the honesty, wonder and just-the-way-a-child-thinks feel to the book, where Samuel Todd thinks of all the marvelous inventions around him.
(mirrors, belt loops, Velcro, mittens and gloves, etc) Like Brown's marvelous The Important Book, this slim picture book invites the youngest thinkers and readers to reconsider the most commonplace objects.
Keep an eye out for it!
