Yup. Don't think I looked up a vocabulary word without a gun to my head until I was twenty-one, and bet I still couldn't pass a test on a book I've readl. Yet I manage to both read 'em and write 'em. How do you "lose yourself" in a book--that very private, right-brained, experience--if you know you're going to be (left-brain) tested on it? Ugh, gives me the willies!
