Konigsburg, Outcast of 19 Schuyler Place

Hmmm, this is interesting; I had just the opposite reaction. *Saturday* struck me as 4 short stories with an invented frame around, whereas
*Schuyler* struck me as a powerful meditation on persecuting the different.

I too love Konigsburg and think we need a statue of her in every library, along with others like Katherine Paterson and Avi. Nevertheless, I have a dissenting opinion concerning The Outcasts .... I think that the book just does not measure up to Konigsbur

g's other novels. With The Mixed Up Files, and The View From Saturday, the relationships between the characters seemed organic, the events in the story seemed inevitable (while also appearing to be unlikey), and there was a delicious mystery and tension t

hat held everything together. I thought that The Outcasts was a mechanical sort of book with some quirky, interesting characters, but it lacked the imagination and inspiration of Konigsburg's other books. I know that others think that it's a fine book, bu

t for me it just didn't do the trick.
