Joining in the conversation about audio books and how they affect reading to our own reading aloud...
In the case of the Beezus and Ramona books, I wasn't intimidated...I was inspired.
We loved Stockard Channing's pitch-perfect reading of the Beezus and Ramona books by Beverly Cleary. We listened to them over and over and over again.
When I read them to my son, I felt I'd had a private lesson from a superb voice actor--I read them with new inspiration and, somehow, with that same slightly husky voice.
