hello fellow children's book lovers,

I'd just like to make an announcement about some children's book illustrator events (happening soon!) and to ask you all to please mark your calendars!

Hundreds of kid's book illustrators have been asked to paint/decorate wooden snowflakes that will be auctioned off for charity. The proceeds will be donated to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Illustrators such as Chris Van Allsburg, David Shannon, Tony DiTerlizzi, Mary Grand Pre, Ian Falconer, Jules Feiffer, Peggy Rathman, Peter Sis, Mark Teague, Brian Selznick... and so many more, have agreed to donate their time and talent. Children's book author/illustrator Grace Lin is spearheading the auction. To view the finished snowflakes and to read more about the snowflake auction, Robert's Snow: for Cancer's Cure, go to: www.robertssnow.com

There will be several art openings to showcase the snowflakes and to create some buzz. These openings are open to the public, so come on by! (some dates aren't finalized, so please check the websites for confirmation!)

I'm helping to organize an opening at the Society of Illustrators in NYC. It will be November 11th (the time will be announced later, but will start be around 6-ish). www.societyillustrators.org

The Eric Carle Museum is also hosting an opening in November (that date will also be announced soon). www.picturebookart.org

The Child at Heart Gallery in MA: today August 31st at 6:30 pm and Oct. 23rd
(closing reception). www.childatheartgallery.com

Smaller openings around the MA area may be happening in October and November, so check out the Robert's Snow website for details.

The snowflake auction itself will be held on Ebay from October 31st - December 12th.

The only way this auction will be a success is if people know about it, so please help spread the word!

thanks a bunch, meghan mccarthy
