We read hundreds of books to our three children from birth, but what stands out the most in my memory, & in theirs, is the reading of The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. When our eldest was about 5 or 6 years old my husband began with The Hobbit. When the second was about that age, he began again,
& then again with the third. So all three heard the series at least 3 times. I washed the dishes from the evening meal (very quietly) as my husband read, so that I could share the experience as well. We were plunged into another world every evening.
