I just finished a job as an elementary library media specialist (I'm taking some time off to stay home with my new baby girl). Having come from a high school background, I must say that reading aloud to young students was the most delightful part of a good experience. I had particular success with The Tiger Rising
(DiCamillo) with fifth graders. Barbara Park of Junie B. Jones fame also wrote a funny little series about a boy called Skinnybones that my students really enjoyed. And I just HAD to read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe to my fourth graders because it was through having it read aloud to me as a child that I fell in love with Lewis and the whole idea of Narnia.
Reading aloud is the single most rewarding experience of my career as a media specialist!
