I use read alouds in my university level children's literature class as a way to help students gain experience reading a loud and for the audience to learn about new books that are not on the syllabus.

I'm also eager to know how my new book WORTH works as a read aloud. It's anovel set in 1870s Nebraska about a young farm boy who feels displaced when he's crippled in a harvesting accident and his father adopts another child through the orphan train system to have enough help on the farm. It has nice short chapters and a short lenth (144 pages) with strong action and chacter, but then again, I'm biased. I'd love to hear from teacher who've used it to get their feedback. Kids have enjoyed the public readings I've given from the book, but when are they going to tell the author they don't like the book? 8-)

Alexandria LaFaye If anyone is interested in a teaching guide for Worth, just let me know.
