Amazing how life is so connected. This discussion thread has fascinated me with the diversity of interpretations, stances, and understandings of the process. I am thrilled to be back on this list and to participate in the community.
I am preparing for my first major show as an artist...am retired from my college teaching days. While in the studio, I had a grand conversation with a first grade teacher who is also a potter. She is looking for bibliographies of quality literature for first graders -- both picturebook and novel. In addition, she wants to explore readalouds and other explorations for her SOLs (standards of learning here in Virginia...yuck...) for the following people:
George Washington Benjamin Franklin Abraham Lincoln George Washington Carver
[Yes, I know...no women...and no examination of the other diversity in this county... but what can you expect when E.D.Hirsch is the designer of the assessments?]
So I told her I would ask my literature compatriots and hope you can send me some suggestions from your experiences -- either as part of list or directly to me. Many thanks.
Carolyn
