Last minute thought on GLBT lit. I can't remember who recommended it to me (Monica?) but I recently read Ariel Shrag's graphic novel Potential.

It may be a bit oversexed for middle school libraries, but the book so aptly captures teen curiosity. Perhaps it's because the author was in high school herself when she drew the comic. (She wrote Potential at 15!) The author actually has one book for each year of high school and they all deal with her various crushes and sexual experiences with girls.
