Robin's post reminded me of my fourth grade teacher who read the Odyssey and the Iliad to us. She read at the end of every day, and if ever earlier in the day misbehavior threatened her question would be, "Do you want your story today or not?" I don't know how sound that was pedagogically, but it worked every time. Those story hours were magic.
