I just read Michael's posting, and while I will first admit that I am not keen on tie-ins and marketing and all the hoopla, there are a couple good things about when a movie is made based on a book. He commented that it limits the imagination of the reader because now everything has been pictured for them. I've asked a couple "non-reader" friends and former students, and in some cases, one of the reasons they don't enjoy reading is because, for whatever reason, they can't/don't automatically "see the pictures" in their heads they way that most of us who love reading do. If a movie or tv show enables those folks to enjoy a book and reading more because now they do have a mental picture to work with, then I think it is better for them and reading as a whole! Those of us with active imaginations are still going to see our own pictures, so in some cases, maybe its not such a horrid thing after all. Kelley E.W.
