I am quite concerned about the impact of "branding" on children's book publishing. So Olivia goes from being an appealing book to mass market empire since the name Olivia is already known. In the book world, the most outrageous example I have seen is a new series called "Maurice Sendak's Little Bear." Else Minarik who wrote the original Little Bear books is listed as the author, but Sendak does NOT do the illustrations for this series, even though he did do them for the original Little Bear books. But Sendak's name is well known and these books can be sold under his brand. Melody Allen melody_allen at gw.doa.state.ri.us
