The Trouble with Babies

Today Nancy wrote, in part, "...we continue to need books in which GLBT characters are more than just background..." Thanks, Nancy, for providing a longer portion of the text from "The Trouble with Babies" than I was able to include in my comment earlier this afternoon. I didn't have the book in front of me, so I quoted what Robin had quoted earlier. I'm so glad you've given us all a more complete glimpse of the text on that page or two. I think I'm correct, however, in remembering that this section is the only portion of this easy chapter book to make reference to the gay dads who live next door.
There's such a difference, isn't there, from stories books reflecting one's personal reality and those reflecting personal lives in general? Both types of stories have great value. Both are absolutely essential.
I don't for one minute think that anyone's family should be exclusively relegated to being part of a story's background. I was affirming earlier how ordinary it seems to read incidentally within a story about a neighborhood family with two dads. It's also ordinary in the best sense and essential, as well, to discover and read stories in which the central character has gay parents.
  Peace, Ginny
