Actually, my nursery to fifth gradeschool is seeking diversified books
(granted it's a private Quaker School), so any suggestions that come across this list in this particular area of diversity are appreciated. One fun book is King and King by Linda de Haan & Stern Nijland. Horn Book described it as a "mischievous twist on the picking-the-princess motif...a bachelor prince finds something lacking with each princess his anxious mother brings to his attention. It's not until the last candidate brings along her cute brother that the prince discovers what's been missing." I understand that it has caused controversy in some places, though.
