Happily, ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL? is readily available from Two Lives Publishing as one of its distributed titles. Here's a link http://www.twolives.com/detail.asp?prodid18
As a matter of fact, it was after Nancy Garden showed Bobbie Combs this book that she decided to track it down and added it to the Two Lives distribution line.

SORRY -- I SENT THIS OUT ACCIDENTALLY BEFORE I'D FINISHED IT! HERE'S THE COMPLETE E-MAIL!
I'm so happy that Meg Rothstein mentioned PUGDOG, one of my all-time favorite books. It's both playful and subtle, and gets its point across without hitting one over the head with it. How reassuring it must be for kids who don't quite fit gender roles!
Another lovely book on a similar theme, is ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL? by Karleen Pendletion Jimenez -- self published and illustrated with photos, from Green Dragon Press, 2267 Lake Shore Blvd. West, #1009, Toronto, ON M8V 3X2. I don't know if it's still available, and it's sad that no larger publisher has taken it up. Yes, as its title suggests, it's clear about its message, (which, to paraphrase lines in the text, is basically that some boys like girl things and some girls like boy things) but it's gentle and sweet. It would have reassured me as a child who, although not transgender, wanted very much to be a boy and embraced boy things -- and wondered why I was different.
