I hope this post doesn't come in triplicate. The first few times I tried to post it told me I was not a subscriber (what, after six years or so??), so I had to re-subscribe.
------------------------------ I hope it's not too late to slip in one last snippet about graphic novels.
I was just reading a piece in this month's Tennis magazine (USTA) about a new comic book being produced by Belgian publisher Standaard Uitgeverij called , starring world number 2 women's tennis player Kim Clijsters. The first book in the series is due to be published in Belgium this spring. Kim's website reports that "Kim will end up in several exciting adventures and her loyal Beauty (her English bulldog) will also get a major part. [her] father will pop up once in a while in appropriate style: honest, firm, and straight on." www.kimcliijsters.com. Tennis magazine comments: "Now they just need a villain. Any ideas?".
I wonder if that would sell in the U.S.? Maybe if they starred the Williams sisters as the combatants :-) Might sell well in Australia, since her fiancee is Australia's tennis hero Lleyton Hewitt.
Does anyone know if there are similar comics produced in the US starring contemporary sports stars, in particular, women? I don't recall any from our discussions.
