THE 2004 PEN CHILDREN'S BOOK PROGRAM
FRESH THINKING: EXCITING NEW IDEAS IN CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG ADULT BOOKS

Presented by the PEN Children's Book Author's Committee and co-sponsored by the New York Public Library, the Donnell Library Center
Our panel of award-winning writers and illustrators will discuss the innovative and thoughtful work they are doing across many genres: picture books, graphic novels, middle-grade fiction, young adult fiction, and nonfiction.
PARTICIPANTS:
KATHERINE ARNOLDI is the author and illustrator of the graphic novel, The Amazing "True" Story of a Teenage Single Mom. It was selected as an ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and is under option by the Kennedy-Marshall Company.
VICKI COBB is the author of more than eighty innovative nonfiction books for children, including I Face the Wind, an honor book for this year's Robert F. Siebert Award for the most distinguished Informational book for children.
K.L. GOING is the author of the novel, Fat Kid Rules the World, named an honor book this year for the Michael L.Printz Award, given for a work that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
GAIL CARSON LEVINE is the author of Ella Enchanted, a 1998 Newbery Honor Book, which was recently made into a motion picture. Her other books include Dave At Night, an ALA Notable Book, and the Princess Tales books.
BRIAN SELZNICK is the illustrator of The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins, a 2002 Caldecott Honor book. He is also the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award for his picture book, The Houdini Box, and has also illustrated Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride; When Marian Sang: The True Recital of Marian Anderson, and many other books.
